Local Law Enforcement Gun Buyback Grant Program

The Budget Act of 2022 (Senate Bill 154) established the Local Law Enforcement Gun Buyback Grant Program. Per the Budget Act, grant funds shall be used to support gun buyback programs structured to incorporate evidence-based methods for reducing firearm violence. This includes, but is not limited to, only providing incentives for fully functioning firearms, providing more incentives for the types of firearms used to commit firearm-related crimes, and prioritizing the types of individuals or locations more prone to firearm violence.

Grants shall be made on a competitive basis to agencies that can demonstrate, using data, that firearm-related violence or crime poses a significant problem in their jurisdiction.
