BSCC Juvenile Committee Seeks Input on Future Strategies

SACRAMENTO (November 4, 2020) - To best serve the emerging needs of California’s at-risk young people, the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has scheduled a listening session at 6 p.m. November 12 to get input that will guide future federal grant spending.

The SACJJDP is preparing to develop its three-year state plan for strategies to prevent and reduce delinquency and improve the juvenile justice system. The plan will inform policies that will direct spending under the Title II formula grant program.

Title II funds can be used for efforts such as:

  • Reducing racial and ethnic disparities
  • Community youth services such as mentoring, gender specific services, and after school programs for at-risk youth.
  • Diversion
  • Employment
  • Mentoring
  • Mental Health Treatment
  • Reentry Services

More information about the Title II grants can be found here https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/programs and here OJJDP FY 2020 Title II Program and Budget Areas.

Sections 5631-5633 (Public Law 93-415). The OJJDP requires that states receiving Title II awards establish a State Advisory Group to develop funding strategies.

The Zoom and teleconference listening session will take place from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on November 12 but may be extended past the time scheduled for adjournment if people still wish to make comments.
