Governor Newsom has directed the BSCC to strengthen the state’s oversight of county jails. At the February 2020 Board meeting, the BSCC approved in concept changes to its jail inspection process to better hold counties accountable for fixing serious deficiencies more quickly. The Board asked BSCC staff to seek public input on the proposed enhancements. The BSCC staff anticipates returning to the Board at its June 2020 meeting with the proposed changes.
