The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) have released several bulletins in the Justice Research series. The series reports on findings from joint NIJ and OJJDP research on youth in the juvenile justice system.

 

National Council on Crime & Delinquency

 

The National Council on Crime & Delinquency (NCCD) has released a series of reports developed from a nationwide study on youth deincarceration. This series of reports illustrates the dramatic reduction of youth incarceration rates in most US states over the past 10 years. NCCD studied the deincarceration trend through interviews with key stakeholders, listening sessions in five states, a national convening of juvenile justice leaders, and the compilation and analysis of county-level data from five jurisdictions. While the trend is encouraging, much higher percentages of youth of color remain under formal supervision and in state secure facilities; more reform work is needed.

NCCD’s Eight-Part Series on Deincarceration

NCCD conducted the study of eight risk assessments in 10 jurisdictions in consultation with an advisory board of juvenile justice researchers and developers of commercial juvenile justice risk assessment systems included in the study. The study compared the assessments’ predictive validity, reliability, equity, and costs. This study was funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
