SACRAMENTO – (Feb. 8, 2018) The Board of State and Community Corrections approved the release of two Requests for Proposals today: one to help guide young parents; the other to help people in jail fight drug addiction.

The Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program uses $942,139 in federal funds to help local corrections authorities deliver substance-use disorder treatment programs in and out of custody. The Request for Proposals for the three-year grant will be available on the BSCC website beginning Feb. 9, 2018, with proposals due back on April 6, 2018.

Applicants can request up to $314,000 a year, and a non-competitive Request for Application will be issued for the second and third years. A 25 percent local match is required.

Successful applicants must be able to provide jail-based substance-use disorder treatment for at least three months and no longer than 12 months. An aftercare component must be a part of the application.

The RFP for the Proud Parenting grant will be posted on the BSCC website on Feb. 9, 2018, and is due back to the agency by March 30, 2018.

A three-year grant, Proud Parenting provides $835,000 in the first year to help young, system-involved parents between the ages of 14 and 25 learn the skills that will help break the intergenerational cycle of violence and delinquency. The amount of money available for the second and third years of the program is not known, but historically funding has not changed.

Applicants can request up to $104,375 annually. Eligible applicants are county probation departments, county offices of education and nonprofit community-based organizations.
